Courtney Nicholl (Prenatal Lactation Consultant)

Hi!

I'm Courtney Nicholl (she/her) , and I'm so excited to be joining the Nelson Doula Collective as a prenatal lactation consultant, here to support families in preparing for all aspects of human body feeding—starting prenatally!

I was born and raised right here in Nelson, and my fascination with babies started early. I began caring for little ones when I was just 13, running a busy and fulfilling baby nannying business for 17 years. My journey into professional birth work began when I became a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula (DONA International) in 2012. After five years of supporting families as a doula, I went on to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing along with an Advanced Perinatal Nursing Certification from BCIT in 2017.

From there, I worked in both high- and low-risk Labour and Delivery at BC Women’s Hospital until 2020, where I had the privilege of learning alongside some of the most experienced specialists in the province. That experience deeply enriched my practice and gave me a wide base of knowledge to bring back home to the Kootenays.

In 2020, I became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and I also completed my training as a Certified Prenatal Educator through Douglas College. In 2021, I added Certified Practice in Contraception and STI Management through BCIT to my toolkit. I currently support clients at Apple Tree Maternity Clinic, Kootenay Lake Hospital Maternity, and the Nelson Options for Sexual Health Clinic.

I live in Nelson with my husband and our two young children, and I’m deeply committed to supporting local families. My philosophy of care is centered on honoring the innate ability of the newborn, while empowering parents to grow and thrive in their unique roles. I know every family and feeding journey is different, and I strive to offer care that’s as individual as you are.

I look forward to walking alongside you in this incredible chapter of life.
