What brought you to this work?
My motivation for becoming a doula was born from my own experiences with pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum with the birth of my two wonderful sons. I moved to New Denver 2 months before finding out I was pregnant with my first child. Moving to a small rural town without perinatal services was certainly a challenge. Driving for appointments, traveling for prenatal education, and of course the looming stress of the 1.5-hour drive to the hospital while in labour…it all contributed extra stress to my pregnancy experience. I felt so isolated and alone. After my first son was born I became obsessed with trying to find a way to bring perinatal support to the soon-to-be mamas and families in New Denver, the Slocan Valley, Nakusp, and surrounding areas.
What’s your personal style as a doula?
With the combination of my experience as an ER nurse and ever-growing passion in the role of a doula, I will bring a calm and compassionate presence to your unique journey into birth and postpartum. I believe perinatal care should be grounded in trust, collaboration, and empowerment. I will work to ensure you feel supported, well informed, always respected and never judged or alone.
